La regi\u00f3n \u00e1rtica, desde el meridiano de referencia IERS hacia el este, comprende partes del norte de Noruega (Nordland, Troms\u00f8, Finnmark, Svalbard y Jan Mayen), el extremo norte de Suecia (V\u00e4sterbotten, Norrbotten y Laponia), el norte de Finlandia (Ostrobotnia del Norte, Kainuu y Lappi), Rusia (M\u00farmansk, Siberia, Nenets Okrug, Nueva Zembla), Estados Unidos (Alaska), Canad\u00e1 (Yuk\u00f3n, Territorios del Noroeste, Nunavut), el Reino Dan\u00e9s (Groenlandia) y el norte de Islandia (Gr\u00edmsey y Kolbeinsey), junto con el oc\u00e9ano \u00c1rtico y los mares adyacentes.<\/p>\n<p>El territorio de la regi\u00f3n \u00e1rtica presenta una cubierta de nieve y hielo que var\u00eda estacionalmente, con permafrost predominantemente desprovisto de \u00e1rboles bajo la tundra. Los mares \u00e1rticos contienen hielo marino estacional en muchos lugares.<\/p>\n<p>La regi\u00f3n \u00e1rtica es un \u00e1rea \u00fanica entre los ecosistemas de la Tierra.
