Es una ciudad importante por su desarrollo comercial, agr\u00edcola e industrial, as\u00ed como por su cercan\u00eda a destinos tur\u00edsticos destacados como Xetulul, Xocomil y playas del Pac\u00edfico.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caracter\u00edsticas generales<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nombre oficial: Ciudad de Retalhul\u00e9u<\/li>\n<li>Departamento: Retalhul\u00e9u<\/li>\n<li>Altitud: Aproximadamente 232 metros sobre el nivel del mar<\/li>\n<li>Clima: C\u00e1lido h\u00famedo (entre 25 \u00b0C y 32 \u00b0C promedio anual)<\/li>\n<li>Gentilicio: Retalteco \/ Retalteca<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Historia breve<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Retalhul\u00e9u tiene ra\u00edces maya-quich\u00e9s y posteriormente se convirti\u00f3 en una zona de paso durante la colonizaci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola. En el siglo XIX creci\u00f3 como centro comercial agr\u00edcola, especialmente por el cultivo del caf\u00e9, banano, ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar y cereales.<\/p>\n<p>Fue elevada a categor\u00eda de ciudad en 1866.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Econom\u00eda<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La econom\u00eda local se basa en:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Agricultura: ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar, caf\u00e9, cacao, cardamomo y ma\u00edz.<\/li>\n<li>Turismo: parques tem\u00e1ticos y sitios arqueol\u00f3gicos.<\/li>\n<li>Industria azucarera y agroindustrial.<\/li>\n<li>Comercio y servicios.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Turismo en la Ciudad y Alrededores<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Aunque muchos atractivos est\u00e1n en municipios cercanos, Retalhul\u00e9u sirve como centro tur\u00edstico regional.
