Desde 1922, se ha formado un complejo de domos de lava, Santiaguito, en el cr\u00e1ter de 1902. El crecimiento del domo ha producido flujos pirocl\u00e1sticos tan recientemente como en 2001; se pueden identificar en esta imagen. El volc\u00e1n se considera peligroso debido a la posibilidad de un colapso del domo, como el ocurrido en 1929, que caus\u00f3 la muerte de unas 5000 personas. Un segundo peligro proviene del flujo de escombros volc\u00e1nicos hacia los r\u00edos al sur de Santiaguito, lo que puede provocar inundaciones catastr\u00f3ficas y flujos de lodo.<\/p>\n<p>La imagen ISS004-ESC-7999 se tom\u00f3 el 17 de febrero de 2002 desde la Estaci\u00f3n Espacial Internacional con una c\u00e1mara digital.
